Your surgery day may be long for both the patient and family member, so we recommend getting as much sleep as possible the night before. Your surgeon will ask you to arrive at our Institute in advance of your surgery time. It is important that you arrive at this time to ensure that additional tests or assessments can be completed before your surgery time.
When you arrive at the hospital, you can request a wheelchair or assistance at the Information Desk located near the main entrance on the first floor. You will go to the 2nd Floor Pre-Operative department. Your family and friends can be with you in the Pre-Operative area.
Your care team is made up of many different health professionals, some who you will see every day and others who work behind the scenes. Each health care professional takes a personal interest in your care plan, working with you to make your joint replacement as successful as possible.
Pre-Operative Unit
In Pre-Op, your surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurse and other members of your care team will visit you and introduce themselves. Any additional assessments, lab or blood work will be done at this time. Your joint area will be washed, shaved and prepared. You will also receive pre-operative antibiotics.
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
After surgery, you will be in PACU. The nurses in PACU are specially trained to care for patients who are recovering from anesthesia. Your vitals will be monitored and once stabilized, you will be transfered to the orthopedic floor.
Orthopedic Floor - Pavilion II
Your recovery and rehabilitation will start on Pavilion II. Our dedicated physical and occupational therapists will be working closely with you providing education and exercises in order for you to return to an active lifestyle. Any equipment needs can be ordered by your therapist at this time and delivered free of charge to your hospital room. Case managers are also available to assist you and your family in preparing for discharge.
